As thuggish proponents of same-sex marriage continue responding to genuine democracy by assaulting old ladies, holding sensless and cowardly protests at Mormon churches and producing TV ads of staggering anti-religious bigotry, Sir Elton John comes out as a voice of reason and rational perspective in the face of all the hysteria
Sir Elton, who’s been living in his own civil partnership for the last three years, tells USA Today:
“What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage.”
“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” John says. “The word ‘marriage,’ I think, puts a lot of people off.
“You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.”
Wow. Imagine that. It’s possible to give homosexual couples the legal protections they need without changing the definition of marriage, the bedrock relationship of human civilization which has remained male-female for the entirety of recorded human history. Just imagine that.
God bless Elton John for his sane and rational perspective. I wish him and his partner a lifetime of happiness.
Post-Script: the same-sex marriage protesters have targeted the Mormons in multiple cities. Since 70% of the black voters supported Proposition 8, have any of their churches been singled out for protest? It doesn’t seem so, only the Mormons.
I wonder why. It’s a real stumper.
